Building a Strong Foundation For Your Family

As we discuss this week what it means to be a godly man, remember, our top priority should be to reflect Jesus.

Being the spiritual leader of your home doesn’t mean having all the answers or being the perfect husband or father. It’s about showing your family, and those closest to you, what it means to follow Jesus and trusting God through it all. I saw this modeled by my dad day in and day out. His life wasn’t easy. He dealt with divorce, a near death heart surgery, job loss, and more health issues. But one thing never wavered in his life, and that was his faith.

My dad couldn’t fix life’s problems or shield us from hard times, but he continuously pointed us to Jesus, and truly demonstrated what it meant to have joy in the Lord. Through my dad’s example, I learned that leadership isn’t about being perfect; it’s about faith, humility, and trusting in God’s plan.

Your role as the spiritual leader extends beyond surviving tough seasons—it’s about setting a foundation for your family and others to thrive. As men, we are called to lead our families with intentionality. That starts with evaluating our own lives. Are we building on a foundation of faith? How would you evaluate the way you are leading your family, marriage, and community?

The truth is, our culture reflects the state of our families, and families follow the leadership of fathers. A strong family begins with a father who points to Jesus. It’s in the everyday moments, from family devotions to praying with your wife, that you will begin to build a strong foundation and be the spiritual leader God called you to be.
