The Men of Iron Minute

It’s 12:30

Jeremiah Lanphier worked in a business for over two decades before being hired as a local missionary by the North Dutch Church on Fulton Street at 49. As he evangelized, he felt God breaking his heart for the lost, and he recognized the need for God in those times. He decided to organize a prayer meeting for businesspeople every Wednesday from noon to 1 pm. He distributed flyers and encouraged people to attend, regardless of how long they could stay.

However, during his first prayer meeting, no one showed up until 12:30 pm, causing Jeremiah to feel like a failure. Despite this setback, he persevered, and eventually, six people joined him that day. They planned another prayer meeting for the following week; this time, twenty people came. The revival sprouted in New York and went to several large cities bearing gospel fruit.

Jeremiah’s persistence and faithfulness paid off. As desperation for God increased after the stock market crashed on October 10, 1857, these prayer meetings became daily, and crowds of up to 3,000 people from all classes joined. The Businessman’s Prayer Revival resulted in an estimated one million people giving their lives to Christ.

Be encouraged, men.

Never give up on our dreams because 12:30 is coming.

Dreams can be fulfilled, promises kept, and lives changed.

12:30 is coming.

Do something.

Dare greatly.

Be a better man.
