Losing the Lottery, You’ve Already Won

Last night we were enjoying time with friends. My wife had made amazing baked ziti, and we celebrated the quality of the meal and mourned the quantity we ate. Though none of us play, our conversation drifted to the lottery and how lives change when people get the cash. The lottery can become a generational game-changer, positively or negatively. The lottery discussion usually brings the usual banter: “If I won the lottery, I would ______.” It’s good to dream out loud.

Ever wonder how many people win the lottery but never claim their earnings? Me too. Millions of dollars remain unclaimed! The only thing worse than playing and winning is winning and never claiming the prize. One unlucky winner in the state of Georgia left $77 million unclaimed. As the six-month claiming window closed, the winner lost it. I wonder if they just never knew that they had won. They had access to the ticket but didn’t see they were the winner. You can’t spend what you don’t have, and you can’t claim a promise from God that you know nothing about. The Bible documents promise after promise; many of them are left unclaimed because they remain unknown.

The promises of God are throughout the bible.

Here are a few that have shaped my life:

God promises to take care of all your needs. (Philippians 4:19)

God promises to be with you. (Joshua 1:5)

God promises to protect you. (Psalm 91:2)

God promises you everlasting life. (John 3:16)

God promises that nothing can separate you from him. (Romans 8:38-39)

There are thousands of promises in the bible.

You must know them to claim them.

Don’t lose out. You’ve already won.

Be a mentor.

Find a mentor.

Be a better man.
