Not For My Glory, But For His
What is your mindset when you are chasing your fitness goals?
One way I think we can shift our focus to glorifying God, is through thankfulness. It is easy for me to puff myself up and be like “Oh, I accomplished this or that in my fitness.”
But at the end of the day, it is all God.
Start with gratitude. So, as you head to the gym or out for a run, go to play pickleball, take time to thank God. “God, thank you so much that I can walk, run, lift weight, play in this rec league, etc.” We are all made in the image of God, and when we humble ourselves and take the time to thank God for the abilities, bodies, and passions in fitness, it helps us get a correct view of God and what he has blessed us with.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Guess what? If you work out, are training for something special or are just getting started in fitness, it all falls in the “everything” category. Giving thanks is a simple way to posture ourselves before the Lord and thank Him for the gifts and abilities he’s given us.
