Mentorship Equips You for the Climb | EP. 163

“Mentorship equips you for the adventure to KNOW GOD.” – Justin Watkins

On EP. 163 Justin closes out the month of March focused on the impact of mentorship. Your culture, your relationships and situations need YOU to make impact and change for God’s glory. But that purpose needs a plan, and that purpose needs to be sharpened and God uses intentional relationships with other men in our lives to do that! Other men to encourage and equip us, to challenge and hold us accountable on the pathway up the mountain. That mountaintop experience is ultimately to know God and be in relationship with Him. The most important sight you can set your eyes on is Jesus Himself, that is the adventure before us men!

Adventure Awaits! If you are ready to take a step onto the mountain to know God and your purpose we want to talk to you! Click the link below, fill out the form and a representative from Men of Iron will follow up with you on your next steps. Men, it’s time to climb! >>> MENOFIRON.ORG/THECLIMB

SHOW NOTES:

  • On EP. 163 Justin finishes up our conversation this month on the impact of mentorship
  • Your culture, your relationships and situations need YOU to make impact and change for God’s glory
  • You matter, you are important, you have a purpose
  • But that purpose needs a plan, and that purpose needs to be sharpened and God uses intentional relationships with other men in our lives to do that
  • Other men to encourage and equip us to challenge and hold us accountable to the pathway up the mountain
  • The most important sight you can set your eyes on is Jesus Himself
  • To pursue a lifelong adventure of knowing God more is what we were created for
  • To be with Jesus is the adventure!
  • What you do, the impact you make here on earth, is NOT where you find your worth
  • Your worth is not based upon how well you perform with the gifts and opportunities, the relationships and roles that God has given you
  • We were made and designed to be known by God, we don’t need to earn it
  • As men we want to accomplish, contribute and do more for others, our company, even when it comes to God – But that’s not God’s measure of success or value
  • Let’s take a look at a mentorship from the Old Testament today between Moses and Joshua
  • Moses did quite a lot of miraculous and amazing things in his lifetime, but the fruit of those exciting moments was a man called into the presence of the Lord on a regular basis
  • “The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.” Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.” Exodus 24:12-18
  • Moses had this unearthly retreat experience with the Lord for nearly two months!
  • And I want you to catch that in verse 13, Moses had a tag along – Joshua
  • When Moses set out, he took his young apprentice, his young protégé and leader in training Joshua
  • Moses poured into Joshua to prepare him for the adventure ahead of leading the people of Israel after he was finished
  • And what could be a greater stretch of training and equipping than to teach him how to ADVENTURE WITH THE LORD. To be in His presence.”
  • Mentorships are not most significantly focused on you hitting goals or achieving more, a Christ-centered mentorship should be focused on you BEING more
  • Your purpose is ultimately to do the same thing – to bring others up the mountain of God to BE WITH HIM
  • Moses is near the end of his life and passes the leadership role to Joshua and listen to these words in Deuteronomy 31:7-8 – “Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
  • Again, notice what he says and does not say- He doesn’t lay out a strategic plan or set of goals and phases for the transition of leadership, it is all about God’s presence
  • Mentorship equips you for the adventure to KNOW GOD and as a result of being in HIS PRESENCE
  • I encourage you to consider the picture of mentorship that we’ve talked through during these 4 episodes and take a step towards finding a mentor or being a mentor for another man in your life
