Men of Iron Podcast

Quiet the Noise | EP. 168

Solitude allows you to hear God’s voice more clearly.” – Scott Davis

On EP. 168 Scott Davis joins the podcast, as he opens up the month of May focusing on the importance of solitude in a man’s life. What does solitude mean? Solitude is not merely when you are alone, but an intentional withdrawal from social engagement to quiet the soul. In today’s culture with social media and the internet, it is harder and harder to get away and quiet the noise. It often takes something serious or traumatic to realize that things have got to change. Solitude allows you to hear God’s voice more clearly. If we don’t seek solitude and intentionally spend time with Jesus, we won’t become the man that He is calling us to be. It’s time to turn off the noise, get away and hear from God!

Scott joined the Men of Iron team in October of 2022 as our Iron Rep in Tampa, FL and the surrounding region. Scott and his wife Lori have four children and live in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Scott believes wholeheartedly that we are responsible to help prepare men all around us to live out and leave a leadership legacy!

SHOW NOTES:

  • What does solitude mean?
  • Solitude is not merely when you are alone, but you have deliberately separated yourself from others. An intentional withdrawal from social engagement to have quietness of soul
  • “We Christians must simplify our lives our lose untold treasures in life and in eternity. Modern civilization is so complex as to make the devotional life all but impossible. The need for solitude and quietness has never been greater today.” A.W. Tozer
  • In today’s culture with social media and the internet, it is harder and harder to get away and quiet the noise
  • We get use to being so busy
  • It often takes something serious or traumatic to realize that things have got to change
  • What we need most is what we avoid most
  • If you are too busy for time with God, it’s your own fault
  • If you don’t set your schedule, someone else will
  • Solitude allows you to hear God’s voice more clearly
  • I was headed down a path of burnout, but a time away at a retreat became one of the biggest blessings of my life
  • My time of retreat ultimately led me to joining the Men of Iron team
  • As men we think if we work harder and faster everything will be okay
  • But it only takes us further and further from God
  • “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”” Luke 10:38-42 (NIV)
  • There is only ONE thing that is needed. To spend time with Jesus
  • If we don’t seek solitude and intentionally spend time with Jesus, we won’t become the man that He is calling us to be
  • The secret to being that man that you want to be is getting away for intentional solitude
  • It’s time to turn off the noise, get away and hear from God!
