Your Body Knows the Truth

James is a hard worker that loves God and his family. His willingness to serve is the envy of his faith community. If the doors are open, you will find James in a conversation or working hard on a project designed to move the heart toward God. James’ family follows his lead, and who wouldn’t? He leads. He loves. He serves. His ego is held in check by a mentor that he meets with every other week. Everything seems up and to the right! James is not at his “fighting weight,” but he chalks it up to aging and an office job. After work, he “clocks in” at home. His two kids are super active, and James makes it a point to be at just about every event. The energy level isn’t what it used to be, but the extra twenty pounds and a busy schedule camouflage the real issue. James used to hear his wife warn him about his health, but now he doesn’t listen because he thinks she is just nagging. James is spiraling.

Humble guys like James can do the right thing for everyone except himself. James compensates for something that happened in his childhood by prioritizing everyone else over himself. Nobility can appear on the surface when foolishness lives in the recesses. The human body is incredibly resilient, but everybody has a breaking point. If you don’t choose a day to rest your body, your body will choose for you. An emergency room visit would be the wake-up call for James. After a sluggish and nauseating afternoon, James felt immense pressure in his chest. His heart attack reminded him that his wife’s concern bore the truth. Paramedics scooped him up and took him to the hospital for tests. The heart attack that takes life gave James a renewed sense of life that day. James hit rock bottom and began making his health a priority. James’ weight is trending down, and his wife is thrilled by his choice to prioritize his health.

There’s a James in all of us.

Prioritize health. Rest often.

Dare greatly.

Lead humbly.

Be a better man.
