A Lazy Man’s Plight

Bobby is a talented, hardworking father of two. He works in a high-rise downtown with a beautiful view of the city’s skyline. His boss commends him for his ability to complete the job on time and with excellence. Still, Bobby doesn’t care much about accolades. He takes pride in his career and accepts his workplace as a mission field. In Jesus’ words, he is “salt and light.” Bobby graduated from a state university. He didn’t excel intellectually, so he had to excel through hard work and good habits. His status at work gains unwanted attention from other employees. Bobby has professional aspirations and goals, and by God’s grace, he might achieve them.

Some people who work closely with Bobby resent him. When the boss comes into Bobby’s office, they cringe with envy. They can’t understand why Bobby gets positive attention while they earn negative attention. They have yet, to understand the meaning of doing things with excellence. The broad of vipers, also known as Bobby’s fellow employees, conger up a plan to discredit Bobby and sabotage the new position he is being asked to fill. Bobby’s focus on his goals and a “job well done” doesn’t get distracted by their envy. Envy is a lazy man’s plight. Envy is as old as sin and as familiar too. Underachievers use envy to choke out an achiever’s energy and ambition. That way, they won’t look bad and keep their sloth on the down low. Misery loves company. Don’t commiserate with the miserable. They may make your life miserable too.

Bobby got the promotion. Two of the envious got let go.

Spend time with men who celebrate your wins and who will listen to your losses. Men who aspire to mentorship achieve a relationship worthy of such trust.

Do something.

Dare greatly.

Be a better man.
