SHOW NOTES:
- Today we finish The Wives Restoration Series with Ashley Glick, a four-part series giving us a glimpse into the lives of 4 different wives and their side of their husband’s restoration story
- Ashely is married to Men of Iron’s Director of Marketing Steve Glick
- They have 2 beautiful girls with one baby on the way
- Ashley did not grow up in a household that went to church regularly
- In her 20’s she started to feel a “pull” to something bigger and a friend’s family started her faith journey
- My parents were very supportive of my faith journey
- “I still have a lot of questions and a lot to learn, but it’s a journey that never ends.”
- Every season that you go into, there is something new to learn.
- When Ashley met Steve they were both in similar situations in their lives, both looking for something greater
- Steve was at a low point in his life, addicted to drugs and alcohol
- “We were two imperfect people working towards the same goal.”
- They dated for several years before getting married, and attribute a lot of their early marriage success to those growing years
- A trip to Liberia, West Africa in 2009 would change the course of Steve’s life and their future marriage
- “The person that I put on that plane wasn’t the person that I got back.”
- He moved out of his house, went back to school to finish his degree and we we started going to church together.
- “All these things I knew he was destined for, were now in front of him.”
- The leadership aspect started to come out, the more Steve grew in his faith
- We go through struggles in our lives that show us that this is NOT who we want to be
- Thankfully they had a great community around them that helped in the early years of dating and marriage
- A small breakup in their first year of dating led to Ashley giving her life to Christ
- It was an opportunity to not rely solely on another person, but give it all to Jesus
- Solitude and prayer are the things Ashley leaned on during this tough season
- Before coming on staff at Men of Iron, Steve had gone through the mentorship program multiple times as a mentor and protege
- A mentor can speak things into his protege that often a wife can’t communicate properly
- “Having another man to talk to just helps men go in the right direction.”
- Steve’s top priority now is leaving a legacy for his wife and kids
- The balance that Men of Iron has brought to our lives is that it’s shown that we can always continue to be better and do better
- During one of the hardest seasons in our lives was when Steve lost his dad
- It was a major learning moment for us in our marriage that ultimately brought us into a beautiful season of restoration
- “Don’t give up on the man that you believe he is, stay prayerful.”
