Dry Lands
Have you ever been spiritually dry? So dry that you ask “where is God” from the deepest places of hurt, confusion, and frustration. Might I pose this perspective? This desert environment is a time to deepen roots instead of uprooting them. It can seem overwhelming to ponder such things, but it’s true. These tepid moments challenge the source of our strength and our resolve. We move beyond the desert when we realize that faith is never linear, and the only way to navigate the heartache is by choosing a pathway of surrender. Faith requires surrender, and spiritual dryness often reveals the corruption of the will. Lutzer points this out, “You become stronger only when you become weaker. When you surrender your will to God, you discover the resources to do what God requires.” When in a wilderness moment of his own, King David offered this hopeful message:
O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1-2, NLT
If you’re in the desert, look for God.
He’s there.
Brothers, he’s always there.
Be a mentor.
Become a mentor.
Be a new man.
