Easily Forgotten
The great Israelite nation suffered under the tyrannical rule of an Egyptian king. Enslaved, the Israelites performed menial tasks to build Egyptian cities, fortify Egyptian infrastructure, and feed the insatiable ego of Pharaoh. God gave a hopeful message of deliverance through a stutterer named Moses. Moses was a mighty man who lacked confidence and experience but had enviable faith in God. Moses was chosen for the task, and God always holds the guarantee on His promises.
Moses interceded between God and His people and Pharaoh. Lacking confidence while contending for freedom, Moses stood before the Egyptian ruler with a message from God, and that message was codified by the plagues cast upon the Egyptians. With each plague striking their sensitivities and pride, the tipping point was at Passover. Death reigned over the firstborn of Egyptians, thus, springing a fresh generation of Israelites to experience freedom. After a good ole fashion plundering of Egyptian gold and silver, the Israelites marched out into their Promised Land (eventually). As recorded in a Psalm that celebrates God’s deliverance, the psalmist wrote,
“But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold. In the desert, they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness, they put God to the test. So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them.” Psalm 106:13-15, NIV2011
Dreadfully, they forgot what God had done.
Let that never be true of us.
Never forget what God has done.
