God Wants You to Have Great Sex

In Proverbs 5 and 6:20-35, Solomon provides clear warnings against the destructive effects of lust. He was aware of the impact from his own family history as his father David’s sin against Bathsheba led to literal death for others around him as a result.

The cliff’s note version is this: Lust may seem like a harmless, secret pleasure, but it will lead to death – you can’t scoop fire into your lap without being burned so stay as far away as possible.

No one sets out to intentionally destroy everything and everyone around them, but even secular studies prove consistently the impacts of lust on healthy, vibrant relationships. Here’s one example that summarizes it well.

But today I want you to consider not only the negative impact of lust but the converse: Imagine a relationship with God and your spouse that lacks shame and secrecy. Picture a relationship built on honesty, trust, and integrity. Consider what your sex life could be free of disconnection and distraction caused by sin.

Not only can lust bring destruction, it robs you of the life-giving gift of connection that God designed you for.

Tucked within the warnings of Proverbs, focus on the provocative metaphor of 5:15-20. God wants you to have vibrant connection and intimacy with Him and your wife. Sex is His design, and because it is SO GOOD, He cares to protect you from anything less.

He wants you to rejoice in a sex life that is blessed, satisfying, and marked by love.

Whether you are single or married, don’t simply consider the negative effects, be motivated by purity that leads to life and a more fulfilling sex life in the process!
