If Your Goals Don’t Scare You, They Aren’t Big Enough

As we approach the end of 2024 it’s that time of year that we start planning for what 2025 will look like. January 1 brings new resolutions, and new opportunities. What goals or dreams will you chase in the new year?

New dreams and goals bring with them new fears and “what-ifs.” What if I fail? What if I can’t accomplish my goals? The “what ifs” can be exhausting, especially as a perfectionist. If your goals bring about anxiety, maybe that’s a good sign. Anytime I’m goal setting that infamous quote comes to mind,

“If your goals don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.”

If God is leading at the center of your planning, He will equip you for the journey ahead. We should be forming habits that live out God’s purpose for our lives. I love this quote from the book Tiny Habits by B. J. Fogg. ⁣

“In order to design successful habits and change your behaviors, you should do three things…”⁣

  • Stop judging yourself. ⁣
  • Take your aspirations and break them down into tiny behaviors. ⁣
  • Embrace mistakes as discoveries and use them to move forward.

This was an encouragement to me and hopefully to you. I struggle with self-doubt and find it hard to grow past my preconceived limitations, and tiny habits and believing in myself and the greater things God has in store for me help me improve. I call it the 1% rule—tiny habits are incredibly powerful over time. ⁣

It’s time to set some big, God-sized goals for 2025, let’s get it!
