Kingdom versus Empire

What are the coolest memories you’ve made so far? The road trips, late-night adventures, laughter with friends, the victories, and maybe even the tough times you’ve conquered. These moments are like bricks in the structure of our lives—precious, meaningful, and worth cherishing. We’re wired to create memories and to live life to the fullest. But as awesome as these memories are, they’re like sandcastles on the beach: beautiful, but they don’t stand forever.

Empire building is a trap. Empire building often breeds a hunger for power that blinds individuals to the needs and struggles of others. It thrives on conquest, sacrificing empathy and humanity in its pursuit of dominance, leaving a trail of shattered lives and broken spirits in its wake. The insatiable desire for control and expansion within empire building corrodes families, businesses, and churches.

Empire building is about consuming and less about contributing. When we think legacy, what lasts beyond us, the impact that extends far beyond our own experiences. Wise, godly men understand this—they’re not just about personal achievements but leaving a mark that echoes through generations. Imagine building something greater than yourself, something lasting and meaningful. That’s what building God’s kingdom is all about. It’s investing in things that last for eternity.

In Matthew 6:19-20, Jesus tells us, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” It’s a reminder that our focus shouldn’t solely be on temporary gains but on eternal values that truly matter. Think of it this way: building God’s kingdom is like planting seeds of goodness, kindness, and love. It’s about making a difference in people’s lives, sharing God’s love, and helping others find hope and purpose. Wise men understand that their actions have a ripple effect. They lead by example, showing love, integrity, and compassion. They invest in relationships, mentor, and lead with humility.

Our masculinity is not solely about our own successes; it’s about lifting others up, encouraging them to grow, and making a lasting impact in their communities and beyond. They understand that building God’s kingdom isn’t a one-person job—it’s a collective effort fueled by a passion for God and a heart for people. So, guys, as we journey through this season and the next, let’s treasure those memories, those moments that shape who we are. But let’s also aim higher—let’s build a legacy that extends beyond our years on this earth.

Let’s be the kind of men who leave footprints of good leadership, kindness, and faithfulness. Let’s invest in building God’s kingdom—through our actions, words, and hearts.
