Making God a Priority in Your Life

OK this is my last blog. I am going to bring it home with PRIORITIES. I talked about this in the podcast, it is THE most important decision you will make in this fight. Where are your priorities? Where are you spending your time? What are you giving the most attention to? What is controlling you? Ask yourself those questions. Better yet, grab a piece of paper and write down the answers. Be honest!

Inventory your time. Look back through the last week. Write down the events that filled up your schedule, and be specific. Think about the time you spend at work, time with the family, leisure, sports, hunting, fishing, Call of Duty, Netflix, watching football, etc. I think you get the idea. Be honest and write down every hour of your day, break it down to 30 minutes for more of a challenge.

Now, hopefully you had some events on your paper that I didn’t mention above, like…church, reading the bible, prayer, solitude, serving and meditation. If you do have those listed, add up the time spent in these and let’s compare them to the time spent on everything else. How does it look…are you scared to look? It’s OK. And it’s OK if they’re not on your list at all. Why? Well, because by identifying this right now, we can make a change, right now. If you find yourself feeling a little crappy, go back and read my last blog on shame.

Let me challenge you with the question of, Do you want to make God a priority?

If you answered yes, keep reading. If you answered no, what are you doing here? Just kidding, glad you are here! If you answered yes, or even I know I should, that’s great! Let’s start with a short prayer, (in your own words) that goes something like, God, I want to make you my priority, I don’t always feel like it, or show it, but I want to do it, please help me. Show me what steps to take. Amen.

Believe He will answer! Believe, just the fact you are reading this and thinking about it, He is answering right now. As we wait on God to reveal our next step, don’t be afraid to take a step in faith yourself. Is there something you have been thinking about, something you feel you know you could or should be doing to make connection with God a priority? What is it? Is it choosing a specific time to read the bible and/or pray? Is it turning from a habitual sin or addiction? Do you feel God impressing on you to get accountability, coaching or counseling? Well, I urge you to obey. Take a step, no matter how small…move.

I truly believe God guides as once we choose to move. And don’t be afraid fo making the wrong move. I used to allow that to prevent me from taking any action in the past. But this verse really helped me with that…and still does…

Isaiah 30:21 “If you wander from the right path, either to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice behind you saying, “You should go this way. Here is the right way.”’

Make the decision today to stop listening to the enemies lies and claim the truth. Then, take action.

Move. Choose to make God a priority in your every day routine. The time is there, whether you remove something unproductive and replace it, or you simply wake up 30 minutes earlier. We can make time for God, and you will do it…if He is a priority.

I mentioned coaching and accountability, if you have someone who is a season ahead of you spiritually, reach out and ask them for help. You can also join our Strong27 one-on-one mentorship. Also, you can reach out to me directly at tonyg@menofiron.org. Thanks for reading…now move!
