This week we wrap up our 5 week series on The 5F’s as we close it out talking about FINANCES. The Bible has a ton to say about money, finances, debt, about providing for our families. If we are going to be men of integrity, finances is an area we MUST focus on! Most often, the reason your finances are suffering is because you are buying things you can’t afford. This happens when we put our security in our social status, when we surrender to our consumeristic nature. Jesus teaches, do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21). Invest in things that bring more people to Jesus. It’s ultimately about stewardship, what we have is ours because God gave it to us. Men, it all starts with our relationship with Jesus. Most often when you are financially unhealthy your eyes are off Jesus. If you are invest in your faith, your finances will fall in line.

#1 – Put God first
#2 – Make a budget
#3 – If married, regularly discuss finances with your wife
#4 – Spend less than you earn
#5 – Be a good steward of your money

It is a hard topic for men to talk about when struggling in this area
Why is it important to focus on our finances?
It is so easy for us to worship what money can bring us
God calls us to be men of integrity
The Bible has a ton to say about money, finances, debt, about providing for our families
If we are going to be men of integrity, finances is an area we need to focus on
The reason you go seriously in debt is because you are buying things you can’t afford
Our security is in our social status, our consumeristic nature
When you are drawn away by those things we are actively moving away from Jesus
We need to be wise about our finances, and educate ourselves in this area

Jesus is pretty extreme in what he teaches about money
Throughout scripture, God used money to teach spiritual truths
How do we use what we have for the glory and honor of God?
Jesus teaches that we should not buy things that disappear, that the moths and rust destroy
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV)
Invest in things that bring more people to Jesus
Invest in things that have eternal value
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” – 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NIV)
If you are invest in your faith, your finances will fall in line
The first F is foundational, it’s faith
If you are building your relationship with Jesus, he is going to guide you into doing what is right
It’s all about stewardship, what we have is ours because God gave it to us
How do we use it to accomplish that things that God has called us to accomplish
