One Man’s Path to Faith and Mentorship

We have been talking this week about frustrations with God and dealing with tough seasons. The major question posed, Is it Okay to be Angry at God? – check out the conversation on the Men of Iron Podcast this week!

I recently grabbed coffee with a man who had gone through the Men of Iron mentorship program during a hard season in his life. Brian and his wife were newly married and gearing up for the next stage of life, a family. What they hadn’t planned for was how hard starting a family would be. Brian and his wife struggled through six long years of infertility. Instead of talking through the anger and letting people in, Brian allowed it to fester and built up walls to everyone and anyone. He was angry at God.

It was in this middle of this difficult season they found a church to call home. At their new church Brian’s relationship with God began to flourish and things started changing. The door was shut for them to have a baby, but God opened another door through the form of adoption.

During his second year at the church Brian heard about Men of Iron. It was something he knew in his heart he desperately needed. Fast forward seven years later and he was still going through the Strong27 mentorship program, but now as a mentor. Not only participating but also overseeing all the men going through the program.

Brian describes Men of Iron as a “Band of brothers, men in the church who will lock arms together.”

Strong27 was more than a program for Brian—it was a lifeline, equipping him to lead with courage and purpose while locking arms with a band of brothers committed to doing life together.

“Without having some type of mentoring, like Men of Iron, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. When you sit across the table from another man you are forced to break down walls and build relationships.”

Today, Brian isn’t afraid to share his struggles—both past and present. And he isn’t afraid to take those to God. Men of Iron has given Brian the strength to lead well: as a husband, as a father, and as a leader in his church and community.
