This week we continue our series on “The Four Man-Killers” that will knock men off their adventure to know God and their purpose. Week 1 we talked about Fear and Week 2 we are talking about Overcoming Apathy. What is apathy? What does it mean to be apathetic? Apathy: Is a noun meaning, Lack of interest, enthusiasm or concern. What are men apathetic about? Leading in the home, going to church, reading the bible, have tough conversations. Apathy about your relationships will hurt you and it will hurt others. On the other side of apathy is a better version of who God created you to be!

Men, how can we combat apathy?

  • #2 – Call it out
  • #3 – Share it with someone who will hold you accountable

  • How do we overcome apathy?
  • Big Idea: Apathy about your relationships will hurt you and it will hurt others
  • Here are some cinnamons, I mean synonyms, for apathy – Passiveness, boredom, lethargy, uninterestedness, unresponsiveness, emotionless
  • What are the root causes of apathy?
    • Lack of vitamin B-12
    • Wanting a perception of having it all together
  • What are men apathetic about?
    • Leading in the home
    • Going to church
    • Having tough conversations with your wife
    • Reading your bible
  • We are afraid of what’s going to happen, we are afraid of the hard work it takes
  • Apathy is knowing what you are suppose to do but you choose not to do it
  • On the other side of apathy is a better version of who God created you to be!
  • Jonah 1:1-3- The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.
  • Because of Jonah’s apathy he put the whole boat, he put all those men on the ship in danger
  • They throw him over board… Jonah cries out (Jonah 2)… then obeys Jonah 3. He did something he didn’t want to do but God rescued a huge group of people as a result.
  • God wants you to take that step in obedience
  • Avoiding the problem for Jonah made it worse and put others in danger
  • Antonym’s of Apathy- Enthusiastic, Interested, Passionate
  • What men in the Bible exhibited passion?
    • The Disciple – those who were close to Jesus, they experienced Him and they got fired up
  • How do I combat apathy in my life?
    • #1 – Recognize it
    • #2 – Call it out
    • #3 – Share it with someone who will hold you accountable
