This week we continue our Family Series as we talk about A Man and His Kids. How are you spiritually leading your kids? It’s easy to think that someone else like a pastor or teacher will do it, but listen up dads, NO ONE will have more impact on your kids spiritual formation than you. It’s never too late to take your spiritual responsibility seriously. The best thing you can do to spiritually invest in your kids is to invest in them when they are young. God from the very beginning wanted fathers to take the spiritual development of their kids very seriously. Dads are suppose to lead their kids. When father’s fail at their job, culture takes over. Men, it takes intentionality, you don’t accidentally disciple your kids.

    • We are all sons, brothers, etc. – so even if you aren’t a dad we hope this conversation serves you well

    • Don’t be afraid to read the Bible with your kids or pray with your kids
    • The spiritual disciplines you instill in your kids at an early age will pay off when they are older
    • The ultimate goal for your kids is to teach them who God is, so that they naturally progress to loving God as their Savior when they are older
    • One of the best ways we grow God’s Kingdom is through our kids
    • God from the very beginning wanted fathers to take the spiritual development of their kids very seriously
    • Dads are suppose to lead their kids
    • “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:7 (NIV)
    • If there is any defining thing about your home, it should be the Law of God
    • “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 (NIV)
    • We have to lead our kids to follow Him because no one else will do it
    • When father’s fail at their job, culture steps in
    • You don’t accidentally disciple your kids, you have to be very intentional about it 
    • Tell your kids the stories of what Jesus has done for you in your life

    • Pick one time a day when you are all together and teach your kids something about Jesus
