Rights & Responsibility

Though controversial, the topic of marriage and marital roles is worth exploring. I have been married for nearly thirty years and have lived on many sides of this topic. Still, I am less interested in anecdotal experience than God’s Truth revealed in the bible. Complementarianism celebrates the unique offerings of both husbands and wives, recognizing that together, they make an unstoppable team. Just like Batman and Robin or Captain America and Bucky, they bring out the best in each other!

It’s all about teamwork! “For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24, NIV) This verse from Genesis emphasizes the concept of unity in marriage. Husbands and wives are meant to be a strong, united team, working together as one to navigate through life’s journey.

In complementarian marriages, husbands and wives work together, side by side, to face life’s adventures. They’re like a dynamic duo, helping and supporting each other in everything they do. And guess what? It’s not about who’s stronger or in control—it’s about honoring and appreciating each other’s strengths. They are equal in value and worth (Genesis 1:27), but that doesn’t mean their genders function the same.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” Ephesians 5:25

“Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as you do to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:22

The beauty of the complementarian view of marriage lies in its celebration of both husband and wife’s inherent differences and strengths. This perspective enriches the marital journey through sacrificial love, mutual respect, and balanced partnership, leading to a more fulfilling and purposeful life together. As couples embrace complementarianism, they discover the timeless beauty of God’s design for marriage. This enduring framework stands the test of time.
