Strong Faith Boasts in Weakness

Men often believe we show strength by pulling ourselves up by our own bootstraps and pushing through suffering. It is weak to admit we are incapable or hurting, so we will fake it until we make it. Too often, we allow pride or shame to keep us from pursuing the help we desperately need.

Strong faith invites you to embrace your weakness and rely on God’s power at work in your suffering.

The foundational principle of the Gospel is we are sinful and incapable of saving ourselves. (Ephesians 2:1-10) This truth doesn’t change once you’ve said the sinner’s prayer or attended church for decades of your life. You will never outgrow your need for a Savior, so stop acting like you can drag yourself through suffering on your own. When you face a situation that feels too heavy to manage on your own, it’s a good reminder that you’re not supposed to.

The promise of the Gospel is we can be real about our brokenness and find a Savior who wants to carry us to wholeness.

When we avoid or hide our need, we keep His help at a distance. If you are suffering right now, God already knows it. Be a stronger man by embracing your need for His help.

Paul is widely considered one of the great leaders and heroes of the faith, paving the way for generations of the Church. But he endured an incredible amount of suffering along the way. And whether it be his successes or setbacks, he regularly, quickly, and humbly admitted his need for help. Go read his thoughts in 2 Corinthians 12:5-10. Do you have the same perspective on your suffering or weakness? How might Paul’s attitude in that passage change your approach to your suffering?
