The Importance of Men Supporting Men
This week on the podcast we talked a lot about how your struggles are not isolated to just you. There is another man out there going through the same thing. Men, you are not alone. Connection is everything, and without an intentional connection with God, and intentional connections with other men, we are prone to take the wrong road.
James 5:13-16 encourages us to pursue the strength of Christian brothers around us to find healing in a variety of challenges, and at the end we get this promise:
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Early on in my faith journey I made it a point to surround myself with like-minded men, men who were leading their families well. It was vital in helping me become the man I am today. Some of those early mentorships, through Men of Iron, helped me as a new husband and father and are still some of my greatest friendships. One of my first mentors Shawn helped me walk through a really difficult season. Without him in my corner in that season, I’m convinced I would have continued to backslide.
Who knows about your porn addiction, your struggling marriage, or maybe a distant relationship with God? If you don’t have a friend or mentor that you can be transparent with about your struggles, you’re missing the opportunity for real transformation. It’s time to share with someone so you can start to experience healing. I’m not saying it will be easy.
But you aren’t called to take the easy road anyway, and you’re not called to walk it alone.
