The Opportunity in Opposition

We all see the same thing. Uber sensitivity and an unwillingness to discuss something that may offer differing opinions to cultural hot buttons. Men need to lead the way in discussions about opinions and beliefs. A story in the bible rings true today. Joshua, the successor of Moses, was called into a difficult task that he felt unqualified to take. In the first chapters of Joshua, God reminded Joshua to “be strong and courageous” four times. Four times. Joshua was a rough and tough dude, but the task had him wondering about God’s reliability and his ability to lead. But Joshua had to be a man, say something, be a leader, and do something. Men, it’s time for some moral courage to pour out of you. The days are not getting brighter, and evil cannot be ignored. Courage begets more courage. Paul didn’t retreat from the truth when facing evil oppressors. Daniel didn’t remain silent when Darius dared him to pray. Martin Luther marched up those stairs at the church in Wittenberg. When his fellow countrymen were beaten and enslaved, Moses said and did something. Nehemiah heard that the city of Jerusalem was spiritually and physically in disrepair; he left his cushy job and led the charge to revival.

Opposition is an opportunity for you to grow and for the truth to prevail.

Paul shared at Mars Hill.

Your dinner table is your pulpit.

Jesus taught in the synagogues.

Sunday school classes have been the place of many theological discussions.

Founding Fathers hashed out a new form of government in Independence Hall.

Coffee shops offer places to enjoy real life and endeavor into a deeper conversation.

The public square used to be about shaping thoughts, beliefs, and philosophies, and today most Christian men live as if they have been neutralized by the Enemy. Let’s revive the public square. Moral courage is a holy combination of faithful conviction and dutiful action.

Be a man of moral courage.

Do something.

Dare greatly.

Be a better man.
