The Men of Iron Minute

Tough Guys

Good men need a rugged edge. The edge that sends a message that he isn’t a mark. Brute strength has its advantages, but a mental edge can help diffuse complacency and cure discouragement. When a person hears “tough guy” a paradigm forms in most brains. A holographic image of a muscle-bound dude lifting heavy, or a brawny, independent man whose reluctance to ask for help is a façade. Toughness carries more weight than a barbell. Toughness is proven when a man sticks with his commitments. Furthermore, a man is tough when he stays in a marriage through a rough patch. Toughness, grit, and resilience are near neighbors. Toughness must be proven to be true. Sure, it’s awesome to have workout routines to form your body into Herculean titans, but if you aren’t keeping your faith commitments… your weakness has just seeped through the cracks. As intriguing as adrenaline-fueled escapades into the wild, from bone-crushing outdoor challenges to the heart-pounding exploration of urban jungles, toughness comes in many masculine forms. May this be an initiation into the realm of men who refuse to be ordinary, who confront challenges head-on, and who live life with unapologetic influence and intensity. Tough men do things that are tough.
