Trusting God’s Plan
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)
For most of my life I have made big decisions based on what God was leading me toward. The biggest decision of my life came in November of 2019. I had a successful career in the film industry, but the busy schedule left little time for me to be with my wife and kids. We dreamed of a slower life in Pennsylvania, around family and pursuing freelance work. After two years of planning, I left my career in Atlanta and we moved to Pennsylvania. Shortly after the move, the world shut down. Like many others, I was out of work for months.
This was a difficult time for me. I was mad at God, scared, confused and didn’t know where to turn.
I lacked the foundational tools needed to be a stronghold in my family. I was distant, angry and disconnected. I couldn’t understand in the moment why God moved us to a new place where there were no opportunities in my line of work. As a father, I felt useless. I thought, who am I if I can’t provide for my family? I came here with a plan of what I thought my life would look like, and to this day, it has not gone the way I planned.
But that’s not a bad thing. During these past 5 years I have had more personal growth, intentional time with God, new career opportunities, authentic friendships, time with my kids, and a deepened relationship with my wife. Things I had always longed for in Atlanta.
You may have a plan for what you think your life should look like, but God’s plan may be different.
We may not always see the full picture in the moment, but if we lean on him, listen, and pray, you may find the answer is right in front of you.
