Understanding God’s Heart Through Fatherhood
I remember when I first held my oldest daughter Pearl in my arms. A wave of emotions came over me as I realized how deep my love for her was in that moment. A love I hadn’t known just a few short minutes earlier.
Becoming a new dad is one of the best ways to understand God’s deep love for you, it help’s you understand who God made you to be. After becoming a dad I understood God’s love for me in a whole new way. God’s love never fails.
“Fathers, don’t frustrate your children with no-win scenarios. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.” Ephesians 6:4 (MSG)
It also comes with deep responsibility. Dads, we must not neglect the responsibility to teach our kids about God and be a spiritual example for them. It is not a responsibility that should be left to the church.
When I became a dad I remember this instant feeling of needing to protect and provide for my daughter. To help her in life, to be all that God created her to be. When a man understands he is responsible for someone else, I believe it can and will call him to a higher standard.
Becoming a new dad makes you realize what really matters in life.
It’s not about getting them the newest toys or gadgets, or the expensive trips to Disney World. It’s the little things that matter most. It’s the walks to the park, the daddy-daughter dates for ice cream, or the family nights snuggling on the couch watching a movie.
When I think about my own childhood, I think about how my dad never said no when I asked him to play catch. Or him taking me with him to work so I could play with my own little tool set and build things. As a new dad it’s important to be provider and protecter, but also to be intentional about the little moments. These little moments can have a big impact.
