What Will Be Said When You’re Gone?
Acts 11:24 – For he was a good man full of the Holy Spirit and faith. And a great number of people were added unto the Lord.
What do you want to be spoken at your funeral?
This is a sobering, but very real question. But honestly, think about it, what do you want people to say about you when you die? What is the legacy that you want to leave with your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids?
This verse portrays the exact words that I want to be shared when I die.
But how do we get there? How do we get to be “a good man full of the Holy Spirit and faith.”
It starts by believing and surrendering that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior.
Romans 10:9 states, that if you declare with your mouths “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” If you are saved you become a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. Boom. You got the Holy Spirit.
And now faith. Faith comes from a slow, day by day, progressive sanctification, walk with God. Continually, walking with Jesus, and abiding with Him through reading scripture, solitude, worship, and spending time with other believers. As we continue to draw near to Him, He will draw near to you.
As we continue to do that, and as we continue to look more and more like Christ, people will begin to notice. People notice a changed life. Especially those closest to you, who have known you the longest.
To “add a great number of people unto the Lord” requires us to share our story and share the gospel. People freak out when they think about this and trust me, it is scary/awkward sometimes. But we can rest knowing the Lord will give us the words to say. We also can rest because each one of us has a unique story and you can just share that.
Share how God changed your life. It is more powerful than you realize.
