When Ideas Collide

Keyboard ninjas are ready to chop down our masculine voice. America was once a place where ideas were discussed and defended, and the best ideas usually carried the day. As I look at the fallout from The Joe Rogan Experience, I wonder what happened to the public square and when will the masses reject the mob? Rogan has stood his ground while offering some apologies, and others will surely find a backbone after seeing his courage. Even so, when will we stop throwing moral hand grenades and sit like mature men and have open minded discussions while risking disagreement? We get it. The issues are complex, and a blog will not offer a satisfying solution to cancel culture and mob mentality. Fortunately, the bible gives instruction on how to handle our personal differences, so I will settle upon a widely applied principle. “Be tolerant with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else.” (Colossians 3:13, GNT)

By tolerating one another, we offer grace before the disagreement happens. Jensen explains biblical tolerance in this way, “Tolerance is not an intellectual position, but a social response. It is the willingness to allow, endure or suffer different things or ideas, or even people with whom we disagree.” Christians are Jesus’ people, and Jesus’ people can lead the way! Let’s be tolerant people amid an intolerant world. This needs to begin with men within friendships and mentorships. These are the safest places to discuss the danger of differing opinions. Courageous men are tolerant, forgiving, and wise. Now, couldn’t the world use more tolerance, forgiveness, and wisdom? Let’s be these kinds of men.

Be a mentor.

Become a mentor.

Be a new man.
