When the Enemy Circles, God Stands Stronger
On Monday we looked at 1 Peter 5:8-10, a call to all men (and Christians alike) to “be alert and of sober mind.” Satan prowls about like a lion, he knows your feelings and propensities. This lion isn’t out for a nibble or small bite, he wants to utterly devour.
Only God can know more, and do more, than the devil.
When the enemy presses in, give it to God. When Satan says you aren’t good enough, give it to God. When you messed up again, give it to God.
As Paul says, “The God of all grace will himself restore you and make you strong.”
I can think of a very specific moment in my restoration story where Satan was prowling around me, looking to devour. I was a new Christian and had just returned from this mountain top salvation experience in Africa. The problem was I was now back in the real world, back to normal life. The lifestyle I left behind was now front and center again. It was a hard transition. I was fighting daily to leave the old me behind, but the devil kept prowling. Roaring like a lion looking to devour. A breaking point came after a night out with friends that resulted in a DUI. I was absolutely crushed.
I remember being on my knees in my bedroom, crying out to God. “Why now God, why now!?” I was mad at God in the moment, but ultimately mad at myself.
In a quiet still voice I heard, “Because I know you can handle it.”
Just a few weeks prior, before I surrendered my life to God, that DUI would’ve been just another stupid thing I did in a life devoid of God. But God used that moment at the perfect time as a catalyst for growth. It was a light switch moment for me where I truly left the old me behind.
My awareness and closeness to God in that rock bottom moment allowed for an active resistance to the enemy’s attack. It was the perfect opportunity for Satan to devour, but God knew my heart. When the enemy circles, God stands stronger.
