6 Keys to Keep Your Fitness Journey Intact

In the realm of health and fitness, the Bible reminds us that two are better than one. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 beautifully captures the essence of shared goals and aspirations. Let’s journey through scripture and explore how effective communication, grounded in faith, can lead us to crush our health and fitness goals. Accountability requires communication (a feedback loop). This is the final blog in a series based on actual methods developed by Errol Doebler, a former Navy Seal.

These are the principles:

  • Situation (Set of circumstances dictating the need for action)
  • Missions (Your goal or what you want to accomplish)
  • Actions (The things you will do to accomplish your mission)
  • Contingencies (Consider things that can go wrong as I execute actions and account for them.)
  • Communication (Decide who you will talk to, when you will talk with them, how you will talk with them, for how long you will talk with them, and about what you will talk with them.)[1]

+ Key #1 – Shared Goals through Open Communication

“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor:

If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Just as scripture suggests, shared labor brings greater rewards. Finding a like-minded fitness partner creates a bond rooted in shared goals. Communicating these objectives strengthens the commitment and fosters mutual encouragement.

+ Key #2 – Accountability through Scripture & Communication

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

Paul’s words in Galatians underscore the power of bearing one another’s burdens. When communication is a vessel of accountability, we fulfill Christ’s call to support each other. Daily check-ins and reminders embody this biblical principle.

+ Key #3 – Adapting with Faith & Communication

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs teaches us to lean on God’s wisdom. In moments of plateau, open communication with a partner fosters creativity. By trusting in divine guidance and sharing insights, new paths emerge, leading to progress.

+ Key #4 – Mental Strength via Scriptural Communication

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as, in fact, you are doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11

In the realm of fitness, mental strength is paramount. The words of Paul to the Thessalonians emphasize the importance of encouragement. Through scripture-based communication, friends become beacons of hope on challenging days.

+ Key #5 – Celebrating Progress through Scriptural Reflection

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1

David’s psalm teaches us the art of thanksgiving. By expressing gratitude for achievements, we share God’s wonderful deeds. Scripture-based communication allows us to celebrate health and fitness milestones as testimonies of His grace.

+ Key #6 – Develop Future Goals with Faith

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

Effective communication, rooted in faith, prepares us for future challenges and goals. Just as Paul pressed on, we pressed on together, guided by shared faith and purpose.

From unity in purpose to accountability, adaptation, and celebration, scripture guides our interactions in all facets of life. So, if you’re seeking to embark on a health and fitness venture, remember that woven into the fabric of communication are the threads of faith, fellowship, and accountability.
