Be Confident Not Cocky

Brian Dougherty became a Navy Seal at the age of 29. Brian entered Basic Underwater Demolition Seal (B.U.D.S.) training with a chip on his shoulder. His journey down into humility allowed him to rise to become a SEAL, entrepreneur and better fatherBrian is like all of us from time to time. We can become overly confident and become cocky. He overcame and so can you!

This seems impossible. I get it.

How can you do this?

How can we know the difference between confidence and cockiness

Here are some big differences

Confidence insights. Cockiness divides.

Confidence invites. Cockiness ignores.

Confidence attracts. Cockiness repels.

Confidence shares. Cockiness hoards.

Confidence comes when you do the work to know who you are, and then you’re honest about what you can do.

Let’s use this quote as a guide.

“Confidence…thrives on honesty, on honor, on the sacredness of obligations, on faithful protection and on unselfish performance. Without them, it cannot live.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

Honesty– Honest with ourselves and honest with others.

Honor– well respected by living a virtuous life.

Sacredness of Obligations– If you say it, do it! Another word for this is integrity.

Faithful Protection– Being a protector is a core tenet of being a man.

Unselfish performance– live for a purpose greater than yourself.

Fight Cockiness.

Live with Confidence.
